The "Im Tirzu" Movement (ITM) recently published a study that lashed at the involvement of the New Israel Fund (NIF) and organizations it sponsored in shaping the report by the UN-appointed Goldstone Committee concerning Operation Cast Lead. The study was extensively covered by the media. Articles about it and interviews with ITM leaders were featured in Maariv, TV Channels 1 and 2, IDF Radio, and Kol Israel's Reshet Bet radio. Following the study, the ITM – which defines itself as a "centrist extra-parliamentary movement that strives to strengthen the values of Zionism in Israel" – launched an extensive public campaign against the NIF. Donning keffiyehs, ITM activists staged a demonstration outside the home of NIF President and former MK Naomi Hazan. In the study and subsequent interviews, ITM heads argued that the NIF-sponsored organizations are a fifth column that harms Israel's security.
A thorough examination of the ITM study revealed that it is flawed and full of distortions. It analyzed the information sources of the Goldstone report based on references cited in the report, while ignoring many other sources upon which it was based including cabinet members, IDF generals, government institutions, and major Israeli media, Maariv included. If we are to follow the rationale of the study, they too should be accused of "causing Israel serious political damage and harming its military ability to defend itself at war," and they too should be considered "extreme leftists and anti-Zionists" (citing the study).
